My cars transmission is making an awful noise?

So I've been having issues with my 2012 ford focus for the past around 1 year now. Basically the sequence of what happens is that, it'll start, drive, rev out, when revving out it won't accelerate and will occasionally jerk as if it's trying to accelerate, then i'll stop the car and turn it off. When turning it on it won't even turn over. Just like a dead battery. It does not detect standard. Eventually, after sitting for awhile it'll make this awful noise in the front end, i assume its the transmission. It sounds like gravel rotating around. Then the car will start and drive and eventually repeat every step.

any help is good help. Appreciate it.

Time for a professional mechanic to look at it.

My gut tells me you have issues with your PRNDL/neutral safety switch. Either the wiring harness going to the switch is damaged or there's corrosion, or the switch itself is going bad. Do you have a check engine light on? If so, have the car scanned for trouble codes. The check engine light isn't just for the engine because the computer will also set codes if there are transmission issues as well.

Find local shop at ATRA.com for more help. PRNDL switch won't have anything to do with the noise. The no start might be the battery. The shop will diagnosis it and give you a estimate to repair the problem

Time to buy a rebuilt tranny.

For Focus transmissions have been a known fault by Ford for years. There are a few recalls you should ask the dealer service manager about.

It isn't ringing any bells with me. The spinning gravel is quite imaginative though.

It could be a clutch or linkage issue rather than a totally effed tranny, but if you don't get it fixed, it will be a tranny issue.

The "Not starting" part suggests that the transmission isn't the issue (or not the only issue anyway). Suggests that the car does not recognize that the transmission is in park or neutral or whatever condition it requires in order to start. Of course, it could easily be that the transmission is actually not in park or neutral and not just a failed condition signal type of problem.

  • Why is my 1997 Ford Thunderbird making a loud knocking noise as I? I bought a 97 ford Thunderbird not to long ago and it is starting to make a thumping like kknock. Sound like it is coming from under the car but only happens when I'm driving. I got an oil change n still hear the knocking why?
  • 2000 ford ranger 6 cylinder engine is making a taping noise? I left it set more a couple months and now it is making a taping noise when I start it. My friend had a stethoscope with a rod on it… He held it to the valve covers and block to listen. I heard nothing on valve cover and only heard it slightly on the block, but it was really loud on the alternator… Does that mean it is my alternator? How accurate is a stethescope? Also, the battery was dead and we jumped it… Not sure if that matters… Any ideas?
  • 03 ford ranger 3.0L v6 making clicking noise? A few days ago my ranger started making a clicking noise from the engine. It increases with the rpms and seems to go away when torque is applied like going up a hill. I had probably waited too long to change my oil and I just changed it and it seemed to maybe help a little. Does anyone know what the sound might be?
  • Isn't it hard to force the EU to buy our cars? Ford announced they'll stop making regular cars, and they don't want our gas guzzling SUVs? Or huge trucks. That's what part of this trade war is about fyi, our products that they don't even want. Interesting, but 10% vs 2.5% isn't exactly earth shattering on cars. Plus that article's talking about OBAMA'S proposed free trade not Trumps.
