Good cars for first time drivers?
I'm looking to buy a car for my son who will be driving for the first time once he passes his tests roughly in December.
What would be the best car for me to buy him taking into consideration first time driver insurance and all of that. I will also be putting myself as a named driver on the car so the insurance is slightly cheaper.
I have seen a few that i like such as an Audi A3 or Mercedes A160 on monthly contract but these may be too much for a first time user and so maybe a ford focus or a kia or something along those lines?
If you are in the UK then you need to lower your sights somewhat.
You going on the insurance as a named driver will help but only a little. You going as the main driver (and you will have to be the owner and registered keeper too) will be illegal and insurance fraud. The insurance on the cars you suggest will be vast.
You need to be looking at a Fiesta, Corsa, Ka, 500, i10, Picanto category car. It needs to be a lower spec model and definitely not sporty in any way and definitely ot from factory standard. You may find even than that to get a reasonable insurance price it may have to have a telematics box fitted by the insurance company.
A smart car lol
A bus pass is best.
UK answer.
Look at cars in groups 1 to 5.
Get a black box.
Ford Ka perhaps a Fiesta.
Do not go lease or new
Leases get penalised for marks and damage as well as excess miles.
You should find a reasonable car well under £1500.
Get quotes before you buy
Expect him to scrape it or crash it.
Bollards are easy to hit.
VW Up. There's a turbo engine choice for more go.

- Would a ford fusion be a good car for a first time driver like me? This would be my first car I ever had and I don't know how to drive yet but I'm gonna take driving lesson before I even get a car PS I already have my learner permit
- First time car buyer: need advice? I would like to buy a car with the following conditions: safe, good gas mileage, easy for me to move seats down in case I move (I don't own much but two furniture pieces I have to put seats down), certified preowned. My family runs within the Toyota, ford and Chevy business but I'm willing to look beyond those as long as the cars aren t notorious for being a lemon. And how much would be good to put down?
