Does my 2007 ford focus 1.6 ti vct engine have an alternator tensioner pulley?

I have a 2007 1.6 petrol ti vct engine and it does not seem to have an alternator belt tensioner. I bought this car and the engine was stripped already and no tensioner came with the car now that i have it back together i don't see any place where the tensioner would fit and the belt that came with the car seems very short.
the problem is i don't know if there was a tensioner or is it just tensioned with the alternator bolted up
there seems to be too much pressure on the belt when i have it tightened all the way up or else its the wrong belt that came off the car
any ideas would be much appreciated

Thanks david but nmy engine has two belts.one drives the alt, water pump and the power steering pump and the other drives the a:/c.neither of them have a tensioner and the thing that gets me is there are not manty of those cars here in ireland and i can't get any info about a tensioner on the web. When i have the alternator tightened down in its place the belt is so tight i think it will break the water pump if i run the car

I agree with g-man. I've just been outside to have a look at my 2013 Fiesta and if yours is the same, there's only one belt that drives everything. My guess is the belt tensioner would tension the entire belt, where ever it is.

Virtually all modern engines use a tensioner pulley that's separate from the other components. Google some photos of the belt routing on your engine and it should be apparent where that pulley is supposed to be. Here's the diagram for the 2.0, I suspect the 1.6 will be similar.

  • What does Ti-VCT stand for in the new 2015 Ford Taurus SE? The 2015 Ford Taurus SE comes standard with a 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine. What exactly does Ti-VCT stand for? Is it different than the dual-overhead camshaft or is it just a fancier term for it
  • If my power steering pump and pulley break, is there any other parts I may have to potentially replace? Last night when I was driving, my power steering pump busted and also broke my power steering pulley. I have a 2002 ford Taurus. In the process of the pulley breaking off, the serpentine belt came off. It is still on the car so I just have to re position it once the new pulley is on. My question is through this incident, could anything else have broken? I just did a bypass pulley for the AC compressor last week. And I also replaced the serpentine belt last week.
  • Do i need a pulley puller to remove my water pump pulley? I have a 1996 ford ranger v6 4.0 liter and i was wondering if i need a pulley puller to remove it and/or what other tools will i be needing. It doesn't seem too hard and it's right there so i think i'm capable. I replaced the serpentine belt but now i need to replace both. Also if anyone would be able to give me a link to a video or kind of give me the gist of replacing the pulley.
  • How to put on a serpentine belt on a 99 ford contour with a 2.0l vct engine? My serpentine belt snapped so I went to advanced auto parts and bought a new belt. I have looked at the belt diagram on my car and it does not match my pulley system so I tried to put the belt through the pulleys and there's a lot of extra slack at the bottom can anyway give me the correct diagram or help me out?
