01 Honda civic lx or 07 ford focus?

I'm buying my first car and I've heard great things about honda civics and ford focuses. However, I've read that the 01 honda civic was a problematic year. The owner says they changed the timing belt at 103k (it now has 132k)
the ford focus has 150k miles, a new alternator and new tires and the owner says they've maintained it regularly. I'm not sure which I should buy? Should I buy a different year focus or civic, and with how many miles? Sorry for all the questions!

Based on that information no one could choose between them.
Even if 01 was a bad year then 14 years latr all of the problems will have been sorted

Civics transmissions are not the best I would stick with the ford if its cheap. The issue with a timing belt is they need to be replaced about 30k-50k miles or else the engine will get destroyed if the belt snaps which they do its a interference engine meaning the engine is toast if it every snapped. Also I believe the civics run there water pumps on the timing belt which means to replace it it will costs a lot of cash. Only buy timing chain cars if you can the only issue with them is once in awhile the tensioner will go out if it doesn't the chain will last the lifetime of the car. I would like that the fords owners maintained it, do a quick check check how dirty the coolant is in the radiator/tank, the power steering fluid, transmission fluid if it has a dipstick, and the engine oil, also the brake fluid if it looks ok then buy it. Test drive the car and push it to its limits harder than you would normally drive. If it makes bad noises aka the engine or transmission and you still want it you can lower the price range or say I don't need these issues. Always check the engine bay for issues and go over the body with a flashlight for dents/scratches if you want the car badly then you can lower the price with these defects

Focus

The Focus if only because it's much newer.

The Honda would be more reliable. However, the 2007 Focuses weren't bad cars either. I guess the Focus simply because it's six years newer. If the Honda was newer, it would be my choice.

6 years is a lot newer. The Focus if only because it's much newer.

  • Toyota corolla 2016 or Use honda Civic? I know they both reliable car but people say buy american cars cause if you buy overseas cars like honda or toyota their parts will be More expensive but i don't want to buy a ford or a chevy cause they are not reliable but most people say if you take care of any car including fords it will be ok
  • Would I be able to trade in my 2009 Honda Civic for this 1998 Mustang Cobra? http://www.maximumautosearch.com/1998-Ford-Mustang-SVT-Cobra-Englewood-Colorado-80113/5205315 My dream car has been a Mustang Cobra, I bought the civic because I thought I was going to college but I was denied. Well now I have a really good job and I can afford to have this Cobra. Would I be able to trade it in even though I still owe money on the Civic?
  • Ford mustang vs honda civic? Assuming that I maintain both cars equally, which one do you guys think will last the longest? I want a long lasting car.
  • 2002 Honda Civic or 2002 Ford Mustang as first car? I'm debating on getting a Civic with nearly 30 mpg or a Mustang with nearly 20 mpg, and I also live in Indiana where we get around a foot of snow every year.
