2002 Honda Civic or 2002 Ford Mustang as first car?

I'm debating on getting a Civic with nearly 30 mpg or a Mustang with nearly 20 mpg, and I also live in Indiana where we get around a foot of snow every year.

Given it's your first car a civic would be cheaper on insurance and better for sketchy conditions (like snow).

Save the mustang until you're older and can afford a 2nd car for summer

Accord, and buy narrower snow tires for winter.

30 + mpg and front wheel drive makes much more sense than a 20 mpg rear wheel drive car in the snow. Sounds like your starting to think like a grown up, saving money is awesome once you start paying all your own bills.

The Civic, being a front wheel drive car, will handle snow better than the rear wheel drive Mustang. Also, if the Mustang has a V6, don't get it. Ford's 3.8L V6 isn't the most reliable engine ever built. Ford's 4.6L V8, however, is extremely reliable.

In a crash, I'd rather be in the Mustang than the Civic, though. Ford knows how to build some tough cars. I've crashed a few!
