Why would a 2002 Ford F150 run loud?

My dad owns the truck but I drive it frequently. A few months ago we noticed a knocking sound and there were issues with accelerating once you hit 50 mph. After having it looked at the mechanic temporarily fixed the issue. We still don't go more than 55 mph and never use the freeway.
Anyway. To me (at times) it seems as if the truck runs louder than it should. On start up it's a really loud roar and whilst driving it sounds as loud as an 18-wheeler. I don't drive it until it's warmed up so I don't think it's a cold engine then again, as you may tell, I don't have much knowledge on trucks/cars. Any help or theories is greatly appreciated.

Assuming we have a turbo? Check pipework and exhaust system. Sounds as though we have a split.thus as boost is generated and escapes it causes roar noise or a loud hiss.
as we go up speed range the lack of pressure fails to boost engine hence lack of power and acceleration. What did mechanic fix?
having a fault code run would be helpful as would taking a peek under bonnet and rev engine to midpoint look, listen see if any gas escape etc.

  • Why is my 1997 Ford Thunderbird making a loud knocking noise as I? I bought a 97 ford Thunderbird not to long ago and it is starting to make a thumping like kknock. Sound like it is coming from under the car but only happens when I'm driving. I got an oil change n still hear the knocking why?
  • Why would my 98 mustang run for 45 seconds and quit running? It's got a new PCM that has been flashed or whatever from a ford dealership, keys have been programmed, new plugs and wires, new coil packs, new battery, new battery connectors, used CCRM, new intake manifold, new fuel pump with fuel pump assembly, and a new fuel filter
  • Why Does Replacing Idle Air Control Valve on 2002 Ford F150 not correct Idle issue? Got A check engine light. Code said Idle Air Contol Valve. Purchased A control valve at parts store. Replaced control valve with new one. Engine Idled up real high. Attempted driving, thought computer had to reset. Engine still idled up too high. Parts store said vehicle had to be driven for at least 20 miles for control valve to operate correctly. Drove truck 30 miles, engine started to surge. Put old control valve back in and engine does not idle high or surge but stalls out.( suggestions) ?
