Should my fuel pump run all the time on my 1990 ford f150 5.0?
My fuel pump runs all the time when running I don't think it should be when I'm at about 45 mph it's hard to get up to speed and it sputters like it's getting to much gas or not enough I've tried everything could someone please help me why does it sputter like it's running out of gas but is not is this bc the fuel pump shouldn't run all the time continuously
In order for the engine to run the fuel pump needs to be running.
If your truck sputters it's probably because it's not getting enough gas, but could also be an ignition issue.
Hi yes he Ford fuel pump has to run all the time as the fuel is pumped up to the fuel distributor and is also pumped back to the tank if too much is there. So this is why you need good hoses between the pump and the engine and tank as if one becomes damaged fuel is pumped out all over the place.
The fuel pump will run all the time when the engine is running.
First thing would be to check fuel pressure, change fuel filter, and change fuel pressure regulator.
Might be other things also, but if there's no check engine light it will only be guessing.
- Location of 1998 Ford Taurus fuel pump. Does it have a fuel cut-off switch? Car shut down suddenyl without warning. New battery and cranks but will not start. Suspect bad fuel filter, 130K miles and fuel filter has never been replaced.
- My 1999 ford ranger has 20 lbs of pressure on the fuel line. Do i need a fuel pump? After I tested the pressure and shut the motor off the pressure went down to 0 quick. When I just turn the key I don't get any pressure
- 1990 ford ranger- fuel pump issues? I've put 3 fuel pumps in so far. 1 had a broken wire at the connection. The other 2 just stopped working after about a week. Anyone else have this experience? How did you solve it?
- I have 1977 ford f150 with a 351 engine in it. I replaced the fuel pump and two filters. It dies often? I have replaced the fuel filter before the fuel pump and the fuel pump aswell as the fuel filter at the engine. Also a new tank. It likes to die. What may be my problem?
