Why did my steering wheel almost feel like it wass locked?
My power steering pump reservoir on my truck (1988 ford F150 xlt lariat, 5.0 with AOD transmission) has always leaked a little bit ever since i got the truck in 2002, had to fill it up about every 2 months because the pump would start whining and after i filled it up it would steer better than the 2005 Toyota Corolla that my mom has, until yesterday that is, i started to back it out of the yard and ithe was so tight, almost like i didn't even have the key turned on, it would turn a little bit to the left but that was it and i let it idle for about 5 minutes and then it freed up some and i managed to get it over in the driveway but it was still really tight, did my power steering pump finally end up going all the way out?
Added (1). just realized that i made some typing mistakes there, hope everybody can make out my gibberish
Added (2). would it free free up after a few minutes if it was completely out?

It went out because you repeatedly allowed it to get low on fluid which lubricates the pump and keeps it from self destructing.
30 year old power steering pump that's been whining and leaking?
Yeah, it's finally packed up.
If you let the fluid leak to the point the system whined, you were causing even more damage than the age of the pump, which would probably be ready to fail by now anyway. Even if it hasn't completely failed, it is LONG passed the point where replacement should have happened.
The pump has failed. It was probably leaking from another part too.
There's somewhere a leak in the servo, that is the device that produces the power in the power steering, if that leak is closed and new liquid filled in, then the power steering should work normal again.
it could be that the servo is defect other than only a leak, that would need a new servo, if that is it, but first the leak should be closed and new liquid filled into the servo to find out whether that fixed the problem, because that will be far more cost effective than buying an entirely new servo device.
It could be the PS belt, pump or the rack.
- Wouldn't women like Dr. Ford feel safer when they were drunk if OSHA stopped violent men like those in the NFL from hitting each other? And calling it play. Shouldn't women have that right to feel safe? You can call this "highlight films" but they are just rich men being violent which a civilized government would stop
- Battery light came on in my car and steering wheel locked but the car was still running what could it be? I drive a 1999 Ford Taurus I was pulling out of a parking lot and the battery symbol popped up and my steering wheel locked but the car didn't shut off. I applied the breaks slowly and the battery symbol went away and my steering wheel unlocked. I do believe I have some issues with the "computer" in the car i was wondering if this was the cause
