Tire pressure for a 275/55/R20?
I recently bought a 1998 F150 with custom 20" wheels and Falken 275/55/R20 tires. It came originally with 16" wheels and 255/70/R16 tires. The Ford door jamb data sticker calls for 29 psi front and 32 psi rear. Will the 20's run the same tire pressure as called out for the OEM tires? BTW, a change to 3.73 gears from the original 3.55 corrected the speedo and the sluggish performance.
James and Jacob answers above are both wrong. Go to a tire retailer. Have them look up (using their Bennet Garfield Tire Guide) the weight that the OE tire carried at the 29 and 32 psi. Then find the replacement size, find the same or slightly higher weight and it wil show the correct PSI. Also, when you rotate remember to adjust the psi.
The pressure on the tire sidewall is for maximum weight and is just a reference point. Check with a tire retailer.
You will have to rely on what's printed on the tire. Somewhere you will see not only the tire size and payload capacity but near that should be a PSI rating. It will give a max psi for that specific tire.
Look on the tire but 44 is a common number for psi in vehicle tires

- When changing the power steering pump on a KA (54) can you use PTFE tape to seal the pressure line from pump? I have changed the power steering pump on a ford KA (54) and when removing the pressure line from the pump there was some kind of seal on it but I don't know what it was, so I was hopping that PTFE tape would do the same job at sealing the thread. Any help please. Andy.
