Is this truck worth the investment?

I will give all of the details I know about the truck and a picture of it. It is a 1993 Ford F-150 XLT Supercab. It has a 4.9L straight six and a five speed. It is four wheel drive. The interior is in immaculate condition. The truck has about 212k miles on it. The seller said the only problems he knew of were it needing a clutch in the future, tires leaking air, and the windshield wipers not working. The truck has typical rust where I'm from. The air leaking was attributed to it sitting and having aluminum rims. When the lock outs are in it helps the clutch. The man is selling it because he doesn't use it. He is asking $900. The photo is taken directly from the craigslist post. I have seen and road in the truck. I plan on using the truck around the farm and drive a lot on gravel roads/highways. It's 20+ years old. Can you afford to buy it, insure it, buy gas for it, and spend about $1500 a year in repairs?

I agree with the previous response and keep in mind. Worth it or not it will without a doubt become a money pit. One question I'd ask is what's the age of the buyer, is it a first car, a buyer with poor credit or is it a car you need to get to and from work? I flip cars on the side and the fact he already knows it has a transmission issue is an eyebrow lifter.

I would ask myself if he is being honest or hiding larger problems. If it's a 4x4 with tranny problems. That is a route you want to stay away from.

  • For truck pulling, what determines which vehicle would win in a truck pull? Is it the torque, horse power, weight, tire softness, or other factors that are in theca\car that would determine what would win in a truck pull? Lets say if you get a Bugatti Veyron and tie it with a Ford Raptor. Which one would win?
  • $500 truck with 250,000 miles. Is it worth it? I was looking at used pick-up trucks online and I found a $500 Ford F250 XL with about 243,000 miles. I love the price of it, but with that amount of miles, is it even worth the buy? There have been no accidents, or recalls or anything. There seems to be a bit of rust, but I don't care much about that. Any suggestions? I d hate to see it stop working after only a few weeks of usage.
