I got a notice on my door from my home owner's association?

I received a notice on my door stating I have 30 days before a potential lien is placed on my property and a fine of $500 if I do not cut my bushes at least 6 inches from the top on each bush and I have to park my truck in the garage as it does not qualify for a luxury brand.

First of all, the bushes are not perfect but look good. I just cut them a couple months ago. Second, my truck is a 2002 Ford F-150 and is in good shape. What difference does it make what I drive anyways? I talked to my neighbor and he said he got fined for having an American flag on his house and painted his door magenta. WTF?

The POS you drive is an embarrassment to your neighbors. They want it put in the garage to avoid it affecting property values

Why did you move to a property with an HOA if you objected to the rules?

Are you at all familiar with HOA's and their functions? It's to enforce consistent standards through the neighborhood. Magenta doors are evidently not part of the plan. Also, if your bushes have grown to the degree that they violate the by-laws, then it's irrelevant how long ago you last trimmed them… It needs to be done again.

You should always read the by-laws for a neighborhood before purchasing. There may be some rules you can't or won't abide by. But you can't fault the HOA for enforcing the rules. That's their purpose.

The HOA needs to be reported to someone.

Putting a lien on your property is going too far.

You agreed with the rules when you moved it so now you have to deal with it. Besides, a 2002 Ford F-150 is an eyesore.

You agreed to the rules when you moved in - you actually signed paperwork agreeing to it. Now you're in violation. Better fix up or move.

You bought your house there because of the housing association.

Live with it or bother to show up and elect new officers.

You shouldn't have purchased a home with a home owners association in the deed.

Was it from the SAME Homeowner's Association you signed a Contract with when you moved in? (You know, the piece of paper you put YOUR signature on promising to follow THEIR rules?)

Huh. How 'about that?

Homeowner's Associations are a law unto themselves. There's nobody who will oversee them. Your only recourse is to vote them out, the same as with any other government.

Read the by laws of your HOA.
