I don't want to sell my first car? Is this normal to be sad about a car?

So my entire life, I've been into cars. I remember growing up and always being obsessed with new cars my parents would buy, and think they are the coolest things ever, and want my own. Kid you not, i worked all the way from 8th grade to now I currently am. I saved up 6,000 by the time I was 16 and bought my own truck (Ford F-150). I seriously don't picture myself with out it. Like it is a part of me. I'll never forget the day I got it and my license the feelings of freedom it brought me were great. I had so many memories with it in high school and college now is great too. I do all the maintenance myself and pay for it myself too. I'm 19 now, and have enough money to buy a newer car with less miles. But also, I don't see why i should sell it. The truck runs and looks new, but it's got 270,000 miles and does have a problem here or there but I always just fork out the cash and fix it myself or pay my friend. But it's never left me stranded yet. The major repairs have mostly already been done. Rust, and a new motor. Like now I look back on cars we've previously owned and on some of them I miss the ride, smell, look, memories, comfort of these cars. When I go on vacations I miss my truck! I want to park it some where in a garage and save it for a classic car basically. Another thing I don't know what new car or truck I want. I've built many online and driven many and none of them are like the truck I have now. I just want it to last forever!

Very normal. I still dream (literally) about my 1978 Camaro RS which I sold more than 25 years ago. Do I wish I still had it? Kinda. But it would not have been particle at all to keep it. It was time to move on.

Wish I had never sold my first car. A 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk. Also wish I had my second car, a 1957 Chevy Belair 2 dr. Hardtop. I do not think any Ford F-150 will ever be a a classic. Way too many of them sold.

Not a problem. Bless you for working for your own vehicle. Keep it. You can get well of $270,000 miles if its well maintained and major repairs are current. You'll never get what its worth. Either that, or pass it on to another hard working kid who'll take care of it.

I've still got my '89 Fox body Mustang stashed away.

With your first car, you build up a lot of memories driving it and all the other cars you buy later will be compared to your first car. However, you've got to remember vehicles are engineered to last a certain amount of time before stuff starts breaking. When the repair bills add up, it's time to consider getting something else. If resale value isn't going to be much to begin with, there's nothing wrong with having a beater vehicle sitting around if you've got a free parking space. I'm currently driving a beat up '91 Honda CRX that I intend to keep as a winter beater/backup car when I want to get something else.

It's a normal feeling. If I were you, with a truck with so many miles and not worth much money, keep it and store it away, and get yourself another vehicle for your daily driving. The truck won't be worth much to anyone else, but it means the world to you. The small amount of money you would get from it wouldn't be worth selling it.

It's not going to last much longer. Just a bit of tin to get you around. Get real!
