How to check if my PCM is bad?

351W 5.8L V8
Engine is out of a 1995 - Exact same engine as sro k just different year. Didn't change much.
Every piece of evidence I've found combined is pointing towards a bad PCM. The truck wouldn't idle worth a **** and stalled out many times for no reason. The truck will only run with the SPOUT connector removed, taking the PCM out of the equation as far as advancing the timing. For a while it would run fine with just the SPOUT connector disconnected, but after a while it started stalling out again the same as it was. I tried a few things, but the only thing that kept the engine idling without stalling was disconnecting the MAP sensor too. It's like the computer is slowly losing control and can't read the information sent to it. I believe the timing is off a little bit due to the outer ring on harmonic balancer being spun, but it's only about 5 degrees out. Which isn't enough to kill the truck like that, it would at least idle.
New parts include: MAP Sensor, Distributor, and ICM.
Is there an easy direct way of checking if the PCM is bad for sure? Without doing a complicated run around of tests. I heard you could open the metal casing of the PCM and see if it was burnt, cracked, or had blown capacitors. Is this true?
I doubt there's an easy way to test it.
There are companies that offer PCM & ECU testing services. Some are trustworthy. Some are not.
- Bad fuel pump or bad Mass Airflow sensor? My truck us having very hard time starting up. It cranks over, putters and shakes really bad then dies. Once it finally becomes drivable, it almost stalls when accelerating from a stop or turning right Could this be a bad fuel pump, bad MAF, or another failing part? Truck is a 2006 ford ranger
- Pcm, loose wires, no start, ford? I have a 2000 ford windstar that quit working. I replaced the starter. The mechanic tried the spare key, but it wasn't programmed. I took it to a dealer and they ran tests on the pcm. Pcm doesn't communicate. The wires are loose. If I fixed the wires, would that fix the car or would I still need to replace the pcm?
- Would bad spark plug wires cause a check engine light? I just changed the valve cover gasket on my car. Then when I tried to start it, it started violently shaking and the check engine light turned on. The only thing I could think is that maybe the spark plug wires broke when I took them off. Would that cause a check engine light? It's a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 150000 miles

I won't have any money to go get it fixed until Christmas, which I'm supposed to be spending in Chicago and I'm driving 6 hours. Is it safe to drive 6 hours straight and wait about a week to get this fixed?
