Is it bad to have check engine light on for too long? Trouble code P1450: Unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum?

My check engine light came on in my 2015 Ford Focus SE a couple days ago and I went to autozone to see what the problem was, and it said it was trouble code p1450 and it's unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum, and the solution is to replace evaporative emissions. I won't have any money to go get it fixed until Christmas, which I'm supposed to be spending in Chicago and I'm driving 6 hours. Is it safe to drive 6 hours straight and wait about a week to get this fixed?

Yes

Talk to any repair garage about the time/distance you can travel before the issue gets worse and damages something else.

You can drive it as is

It is safe to drive - that is strictly an emissions concern. It allows the vehicle to release more gasoline vapor than it should, but not enough to be flammable. Fix it when you can.

Check to see if this is an emissions control item that is still under warranty.

A quick look at some forums indicates that a common cause is a bad purge valve. If you have had the car more than 3 years, it's out of warranty and a purge valve is not covered under the federal emissions warranty. You should be OK driving until you can make the repair.

Let's be basic. The fuel tank must be able to bleed air in, otherwise a vacuum will form and can prevent fuel leaving the tank. In the worse case scenario your engine will misfire and probably stop because it isn't receiving any or sufficient fuel. Whether your case is this bad we can't tell from here.

You might have a blocked EVAP canister or vent solenoid, a kinked or collapsed hose between canister and fuel tank, a faulty Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor or a stuck fuel filler vent, preventing vacuum relief.

  • Check engine light comes on when fuel tank is low? I have a 2000 Ford ranger that has a check engine light come on when the tank gets low, but it goes off when i fill it up. Any ideas?
  • Difference between SERVICE ENGINE SOON and CHECK ENGINE light? Is there any difference? I have a Ford Mustang 2002 and my SERVICE ENGINE SOON light is on. Does it mean something is wrong with my car? Do Mustangs also have a CHECK ENGINE light?
  • Would bad spark plug wires cause a check engine light? I just changed the valve cover gasket on my car. Then when I tried to start it, it started violently shaking and the check engine light turned on. The only thing I could think is that maybe the spark plug wires broke when I took them off. Would that cause a check engine light? It's a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS with 150000 miles
