Ford Triton 4.6/5.4 2v v8 differences?
So I was wondering if there are any differences other than size and power between the Triton 4.6 2v and 5.4 2v I'm thinking about swapping a 5.4 in my f150 its a remanufactured 5.4 long block and I'm wondering if I can transfer any of my stuff off my 4.6 to the 5.4 such as exhaust manifolds, intake manifolds, valve covers, pulleys, water/oil pumps, fuel rails, other stuff? Doing as much research as possible.
The 5.4 SUCKS *** the 4.6 is more reliable especially when it comes to the 3 valve 5.4 the smaller 4.6 and the 5.4 look similar in design but the 4.6 had nothing like the 5.4 boat anchor motor did thats why it was discontinued and is now the 5.0 AGAIN
They are the same engine, the 5.4 is just a bit 'larger' inside. There isn't much to gain by that swap, unless the 4.6 is trashed. So save your $$$ for a set of Trick Flow two valve heads…
For the 1999-2003 P.I. 2 valves, the 5.4L got you about 30 more HP but a whooping 50-60 lb/ft of torque. It's a noticeable difference in performance. The main difference between the 4.6L and 5.4L is that the 5.4L has a longer stroke, everything else is pretty much the same.
" I'm wondering if I can transfer any of my stuff off my 4.6 to the 5.4 such as exhaust manifolds, intake manifolds, valve covers, pulleys, water/oil pumps, fuel rails, other stuff? "
Depends if your 4.6L is Romeo or Windsor. All 2 valve 5.4L are Windsors, if your 4.6L is also a Windsor then most everything can be swapped over, if you have a Romeo 4.6L, then not everything can be swapped over.
I'm not sure what "?" is going on about the 2 valve 4.6L and 5.4L are about the same in terms or reliability the on thing issue that the 5.4L had was the early non-P.I. 5.4's had piston slap issue that while annoying, wasn't a huge deal, and was generally rectified when the P.I. Engines came out

Oh my. The 4.6L and 5.4L are about as closely related as you can get with engines, they share the same architecture and share many of the same parts, they were also made on the same assembly line, buy the same people. The 5.0L Coyote is replacement for *both* the 4.6L and 5.4L, The Coyote is also consider a modular engine and shares several design features with the prior 4.6L and 5.4L engines, it's an evolutionary design. It's very similar to the 4 valve 4.6L/5.4L with the VCT from the 3 valve engines.
- I have a 2005 Ford F1-50 5.4 liter Triton motor 4wd? When engaging transmission into gear a whining noise is heard that sounds like a worn-out hydraulic pump. The sound of the whining increases as the RPMs increase when pulling a hill or an A grade the whining will also get louder. The whining noise does not exist in park or neutral only when engaged in forward gears and reverse. The level of transmission fluid is perfect and was changed 23,000 miles ago. The overall mileage is 80,000 and has been well maintained since it was bought new by me.
- What parts are needed to do an engine tune up on a 2005 ford F150 Lariat with the 5.4 triton 4x4? I bought a 2005 ford F150 and has 144,000 miles on it. It is running really rough, so i want to do a tune up on this. What is needed to do a full tune up on it, i mean down to the very part. Any advice for the best way to do it as well?
- Is it possible to fit a 2000 ford f150 triton v8 xlt into a 1963 ford f100? I recently got a in a bad rear end in my 2000 ford f150 triton v8 and everything is fine but it's salvaged and i was wondering, since I'm putting in the motor and transmission, can I put the front and rear axle from my 2000 ford f150 into my 1963 ford f100? It would be really cool and unique if I could
- I have a 2004 ford f-150 5.4 triton new body style and the exhaust makes noise? It does not make the noise when i'm in park or neutral however when i put it in reverse or drive it starts making like a ratttle noise? kind of sounds like the ehaust is loose but when my boyfriend checked under it it seemed fine. It only does it about 15 minutes after being started but there's days when there's no noise at all
