Ford F150 or Ford Explorer?

I'm 16 and I'm going to buy a car that has been in an accident. I'm going to fix it up as a project. I'm deciding between 2 vehicles. I will be driving it once I've repaired it. I will be taking it to college with me. The college I'm going to is in a large city. Which car should I buy?

-2012 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD
-2013 Ford F150 Platinum 4WD (EcoBoost)

I have already test driven both. My dad's friend has both of them. I'm not buying from him. I'm just stating that I've already driven them. I really like both of these vehicles. I'm having a hard time deciding.

Added (1). My vehicle will just be a regular driver. I won't be hauling very often.

Added (2). I'm not interested in some unsafe econobox.

Do you like hauling your stuff out in the open (F-150) or protected and enclosed (Explorer)?

They are pretty much on the same platform, as a potiental gearhead i would totally fix them up but that depends on your skill. I seek perfection when i personally set out to do something. But my choice would have go down to the options and features. If the F150 is a single cab i wouldn't consider it.

There's a lot of greif that can comes from cars that are wrecked possibly could turn into a real mess. If the insurabnsce companys where involved after you rebulid the truck of your choice it will always be registared as a " Salvaged Tittle " Some insurnsce companys will not insure these vehiles and the ones that do will charge a higher preium. You may also have a bent frame on these vehiles and if you do not know anyone who owens a body shop this can set you back a lot of money.

There's also the extra expensce of 4WD should any of the part be damaged internally who are going to be in for a loss off money. I personaly would stay away from both these vehiles as the could be real money pits. Buy something older that has not been wrecked. Personally I live in the North West and it snows but I have never needed 4WD. I'm a retired Commercil Driver + Mechnaic for over 30 years.

Well the whole thing sounds like a terrible idea. You could probably get a used Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla in excellent condition for what you're going to spend on this, plus you'll get much better gas mileage and be able to park it more easily (trust me you'll appreciate that in any college town).
