Can i put a compressor from a 1995 ford explorer on a 1992 ford explorer?

Imy compressor is out of Freon, and I was told you can't use the 134a in it. Is there another that will work?

Yes you can. Does not have to be 134 either. You can use red tek refrigerant. Which is environmentally friendly. You should replace the dryer/ accumulator. The law states, we're not allowed to mix refrigerants. They react. Not when in the system, but when a system develops a leak, and exposed to air.
There's a conversion kit out there, costs about 20 dollars. It consists of valves, that screw onto the existing high and low pressure valves.

The switch to 134a came about that time. So if you switch to the 95 compressor, you will also have to replace the accumulator, conensor, lines and small parts. And don't forget to get a new hi/low pressure switch. They did make conversion kits for the R12, but not sure how well they worked.

If you're out of R12, removing the compressor and swapping in one that uses a R134a won't do anything. You're still going to purge the system and fix the leak and recharge it with R134a. Basically you'll still have replace everything anyway, if you current compressor works it would be kinda dumb to replace it. You'd be money ahead just to convert your existing system over to R134a, it's not something you can do yourself.
