Does my tuck have a distributor?
I have a 2002 Ford F150 4.2 engine 6 cylynders
You have coil-on plug setup on that vehicle. Each spark plug has its own coil which sits on top of the plug. The firing of the plugs is controlled by a computer which uses, among other things, a cam shaft position sensor and an crank shaft position sensor to determine when to fire the plugs. Totally different set up from a distributor.
You have something called a distributer coil, despite the name, it's nothing like a distributer but yet it's still similar, I have a 2002 explorer and just replaced it… It's a little box that receives messages from the computer on when to activate each spark plug
Nope - Not any more.
- Right distributor for an engine? I have a 1978 ford Ranchero with a 351 midland in it and when I had the distributor changed my camshaft gears teeth broke so I got that fixed and then 8 months later with only putting exactly 1,067 miles into it the gears broke again and I'm pretty sure the distributor caused this because it had unusual scrap marks on the teeth so even though I might be wrong what's the right distributor for this type of engine
- 2000 Ford Ranger v6 4.0 ltr, my tuck started to cut out and die? I flushed the cooling system and then filled it with water and cleaner, then ran it for about 10 minutes then let it cool, then I drained it and filled it with new coolant; I ran it to get it warm an then it started to die, almost like its not getting enough air or gas. I have no clue what happened or what could happen it seems pretty idiot proof to screw up I don't know what to do.
- Installing distributor blindly? I have a 1975 ford and I wanted to replace the distributor, I took the old one out and bought a new one. I just dropped it in randomly and tried to start the engine. After another 5 tries I got it to start and I set the timing. He car runs great. Is this ok or so I need to have a mechanic reinstall the distributor.
- I replaced the distributor and it is firing on the right, but not on the left any sugg? I had to replace the distributor on my ford truck. Because it was shearing off. Now the truck won't start. We're getting fire on the drivers side, but not the passenger side. Any suggestions as to what we're doing wrong
