Bad Belt Tensioner and Idler Pulley or Power Steering Pump?
So I have a whine that goes with the RPM and I've seen a video on Youtube of a Ford f150 with a bad Idler Pulley and Belt Tensioner showing the exact same behavior. I'm considering just replacing those two things right now, my power steering pump seems to be functioning okay but has issues with binding at times; but it's never been hard to turn.
Added (1). He then replaced the Tensioner and Idler Pulley and the noise disappeared entirely.
One way to locate the noise is to remove the belt and spin the rotating items by hand. Any roughness or noise indicates a worn bearing. Some, such as an alternator bearing, can be replaced.
Yeah - just replace everything: buy a new truck. (actually, that would probably be cheaper in the long-run than your approach of throwing new parts at the old one, whether they're needed or not… The collective cost of individual parts of a vehicle is much more than the cost of the vehicle).
Sounds like you are low on power steering fluid. This causes a high pitched whine that increases with rpm. I would chk this first before replacing any thing. With what you have said i bet this is the issue.
- If my power steering pump and pulley break, is there any other parts I may have to potentially replace? Last night when I was driving, my power steering pump busted and also broke my power steering pulley. I have a 2002 ford Taurus. In the process of the pulley breaking off, the serpentine belt came off. It is still on the car so I just have to re position it once the new pulley is on. My question is through this incident, could anything else have broken? I just did a bypass pulley for the AC compressor last week. And I also replaced the serpentine belt last week.
- Do i need a pulley puller to remove my water pump pulley? I have a 1996 ford ranger v6 4.0 liter and i was wondering if i need a pulley puller to remove it and/or what other tools will i be needing. It doesn't seem too hard and it's right there so i think i'm capable. I replaced the serpentine belt but now i need to replace both. Also if anyone would be able to give me a link to a video or kind of give me the gist of replacing the pulley.
- When changing the power steering pump on a KA (54) can you use PTFE tape to seal the pressure line from pump? I have changed the power steering pump on a ford KA (54) and when removing the pressure line from the pump there was some kind of seal on it but I don't know what it was, so I was hopping that PTFE tape would do the same job at sealing the thread. Any help please. Andy.
- Why does my belt tensioner break a lot? I got a 94 ford f150 with a 351, it keeps snapping off belt tensioners, what's happening that it keeps snapping them?
