1984 Ford F150 starts [when cold] but only stays running for minutes and dies, then won't restart for a bit?

An '84 still has a carburetor, so there's some form of 'choke' on the carb to keep the idle higher while it warms-up. You'll have to either learn how to tune a carb or make friends with someone that already knows. But, with a little instruction, it's not hard to learn.
