Before you replace any engine components you should check the heat shield on the catalytic converter. They are notorious for rattling at certain times depending on how loose the shield is or how many of the spot welds have cracked.
What engine? The 4.0 SOHC has problems with the timing chain tensioners that can sound like a old diesel engine.
If it just started doing that, could be just a weak tank of gas. Fill it at a different brand station & see if it goes away.
- What causes problems starting a car and the engine to misfire going over 60 mph? This problem started about two months ago. I have a 2006 Ford Taurus. So far no mechanic can figure out the problem. They have replaced all of the spark plugs (numerous times because they keep going bad), an engine coil, the crankshaft position sensor, the battery, did a tune-up, ran a $100 diagnostic test and still the problem occurs. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? I forgot that they also did a coolant flush.
- Rattling noise coming from passenger side possibly engine when going up steep hills, for ranger? I ave a 2007 ford ranger and recently when going up hills there has been a rattling noise that seems to come from the passenger side towards the engine or front of the truck. What could cause this? I also recently had an oil change, and they put 5w30 in instead of the recommended 5w20, could any of this be a cause?
- Why does my Ford Focus shake when maintaining 70 mph? I've got a 2007 Ford Focus hatchback. My husband did an oil change on it about month ago. Since then there's a vibration. Everything feels fine until you go 70 mph. While trying to maintain the speed the whole car shakes. It feels like it is about to stall, but doesn't or at least, hasn't yet. The shaking stops when accelerating or decelerating. Its an automatic and the engine light pops on and off. It only happens while trying to maintain speed in the 69-71mph range.
