Buy a new vehicle.

You have it towed to the nearest auto salvage yard and junk it.

You have it removed to a Repair Shop (Dealer).
When the mechanic surveys the vehicle, you will know whether it is worth replacing the Engine, or scraping the whole vehicle.

You might even find it is a transmission problem unrelated to the engine.
Could even (rarely) be the computer.

Sadly, I have to agree with the others. 2002 was a *really* bad year for the well-established Explorer line, introducing a lot of serious power train problems that make it the worst vehicle in the carcomplaints.com database. As the page for the 2002 Explorer says, 'The 2002 Ford Explorer is hands-down our worst vehicle on record. "Avoid like the plague" is putting it lightly.' At 16 years old it could be at end of life.

You need a new car

Find a dealer who takes trade ins even if you have to tow them in.

I would take all the spark plugs out and see if you can turn the engine manually(with the engine off).
When you locate the harmonic balancer, you will see the head of a bolt in the center of the harmonic balancer. Find a socket that fits the bolt head and try to see if you can turn it manually. Just make sure that you turn the bolt in the same direction as the engine turns. If you can turn it manually then, your engine is not completely locked.
Hope this helps.

Rebuild it or replace it with a new engine, depending on the degree of damage. There must be explanation of events leading to this condition- overheating, lack of oil, sudden seizure- which might allow a better answer. If the engine was "sweetened, it can be freed up with a squirt of Mechanic's Engine Flush in each cylinder to soak out the corruption, then follow the instructions for a complete flush and change the oil. If it's locked up with sodium silicate, there's no way to free it.

It probably needs to be co-signed to the scrap heap.
So have a qualified mechanic look at it to advise you on the options.
If the mechanic says it is not worth repairing, throw a retirement party for your car.

Another Ford Exploder huh?
