Welding on a 1996 ford explorer axle?
I'm needing to relocate the shock mounts and leaf spring perches on a 1996 ford explorer axle. Can I simply weld them back on in a different spot, or do I need to preheat the surface before welding? What material is the axle tube made out of? It appears to be just steal, but I know the pot is cast. Anyways, i just needing someone's opinion before I started welding.

Can't relocate. Must clean area and re-weld them to same area
You can just weld them on. I would use mig or 7018.

I'm building a project car and am looking for a model of the ford 9 inch rear axle that is 55 inches in total length (from backing plate to backing plate) that came stock in a car ford made. A link to an axle that fits these criteria would also be great;y appreciated.

Can't find any in person so I've been looking online. Seem to only find 2 door sport and sport track axles. Any help would be appreciated. Ratio is 3.73
- My 79 ford f250 doesn't have the same front axle as in the haynes manual, and it looks like an 80s axle? But my dads 85 has a different front axle then the one in the haynes for his year. This whole situations just confusing, all I want to do is get my axles out. Mine looks like it has an outer piece thats held in with a snap ring but after I removed the snap ring it just won't come out. Can't find anything online about it either. Any suggestions?
