Is a salvage title worth it?
I'm 16 and I would like a newer car but, I'm not rich. I would like a 2011-2014 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD. I don't car about resale value. I think I can make this work. I know someone I can trust so he can help get the car. I know someone who can get me parts for cheap. I can opt to go to a trade school for half of my school day where I can take auto body. That means I have a place to paint the parts and put the vehicle together. It's just a matter of whether or not it's worth it. I don't want to get a car from the 90s as I might have many problems with it. Thanks.
Added (1). Should I use Copart? Are there any other sites that sell salvage title cars?
Added (2). I'm doing this so I can show everyone in my school that I'm better than them.

The one I found that isn't too bad. It doesn't look like it's going to need much. I won't do airbags or glass damage.
Just buy a reliable beater.
Throwing money at a vehicle deemed too wrecked for the insurer to bother fixing is going to cost an arm and a leg to get roadworthy.
A bent frame/tweaked body/drivetrain isn't easy to fix, hence the vehicle being totaled.
Figure price on one of those is roughly $20,000 - $30,000. For that vehicle to be totaled, it has to have major damage. Might be able to get away with buying one with a bent frame/body and another flood vehicle, then take a couple thousand hours to swap everything over… Still, without years of experience, going to be in over your head, and cost as much as a used one.
A newer car with a salvage title will be more wrecked than an older car. A newer car is worth more so it has to have more damage than the car is worth which is way higher. Follow me? Sounds like you have a plan and could learn a trade to boot. So good luck and happy shopping and chopping.
Pretty sure you are in Way over your head at 16.
- Where can I find salvage title cars? I want to buy a late model car but, I want to get one a little cheaper. I'm thinking between a 2011 Ford Explorer Limited AWD or a 2013 Ford Taurus Limited AWD. Are there any places that buy them wrecked then repair and sell them? They have to already been repaired. I'm not doing that. I don't have time to fix it.
- How to get rid of my car without a title, but with the registration in my name? I have a 1998 Ford Taurus. The whole purchase in 2006 was a little shady, and I never acquired the title. Furthermore, the title has a lien on it. I bought it off the street from some guy and I never got the title from him (What was I thinking, yes I know). Long story short, no one has ever claimed it since 2006, I've had it since, and I want to get absolutely rid of it now, and I don't know what to do. Any ideas?
- How to get the title to my truck I just bought? I bought a small Ford Ranger pickup for only $500.00. I made the first payment and received a receipt. I made the second payment and he refused to give me a receipt. He gave me the keys and the truck. But no title or receipt. Now he said I never paid him and he wants another $250.00. What can I do legally? He refuses to give me back my $500.00. Said he doesn't have to because he is now going to repossess it.
- How to get a title for a classic vehicle with only a bill of sale? Well I just bought a 1968 Ford F100. It has been sitting in a scrap yard since '01. I bought it from Kansas, but you live in Missouri. I got a bill of sale. Is there a way for me to get a title for it? The truck doesn't run. It's a project.
