You have the knowledge, tools, etc. To do a major job like replacing an oil pump and then have to ask if you need to prime the pump. I can just about guess at 100% correct you do not need to change the oil pump. And if you say it went out there's a 99% chance the engine is now shot and needs replaced/rebuilt.

Only if the engine has been sitting for months / years and every part in the engine is dry. Otherwise, no. Every thing is still lubed. The air pocket in the new pump will work itself out in the first 30 seconds of run time. But just for peace of mind, turn the new pump up-side-down and pour a little oil in the pickup screen, rotate the shaft a few turns. Then install it.

Its always better to prime, you can't trust that heavy grease like oil that comes on and in it. If you pulled the old oil pump you basically drained some oil galleys its better to be safe than sorry and it ensures you won't have a dry start even a few seconds dry can ruin your day

  • What's Christine Blasey Fords prime motivation for choosing now to speak out? 36 years is an awful long time to hold your peace. i understand a woman would need time to get over such an ordeal but 36 years? is it purely to stop Kavanaugh getting a highly prestigious job? Hes been vetted and taken many highly prestigous jobs before this 1 over the last 36 years what's her prime motivation for the timing of her accusation?
  • Installing Aftermarket Head Unit in 2003 Ford Taurus SES? I can't figure out the wiring situation. I got the harness that runs all the way back to the trunk; however, it only has 9 wires. Two for each of the four speakers (8) and one to control an amp if applicable. However, while the wires from the head unit have two power wires, the harness has none. The head unit I got is a DEH-X6700BS. Please help, how do I power this head unit when the wiring harness has no wires for power, only speaker wires?!
  • Installing new radio in 1996 Ford with premium sound system? I'm trying to install a new radio in a 1996 ford explorer with a premium sound system (with two wire harnesses behind radio. One for power and one to the amp/speakers). The amp/speaker harness has 16 wires. I'm only finding stuff online for 8 wire ones. I'm able to get the new radio to power on but no sound gets to the speakers. I have the harnesses and a speaker level converter box to compensate for the amp.
