Can I put a fordvMustang engine in a Ford Explorer?

I was thinking about building a race car out of a truck. I was going to buy a 2002 Ford Explorer v6 4x4 and put a Ford Mustang 5.0 engine in to race people tricking them into thinking it's a slow truck. I have mechanical skills and have the funds to build and the tools and the help. Just wanted a little opinion on the project. Live in Maryland if that's any help

Our Lincoln Aviator has a mustang GT engine. 4.6 liter v8. Runs like a charm

Much easier to buy the 5.0l version that already has Windsor V8 fitted. Then get a higher performance crate engine to replace that. Standard sort of upgrade, with off the shelf parts.

But even then, it's a big heavy SUV. It will go "OK" with a tuned up V8. Maybe 0-60 in ~ 8 seconds. But you will still be embarrassed by all sorts of small Japanese hatchbacks.

If you want a "sleeper", my current drive is a Toyota Blade hatchback. Think Pontiac Vibe, with a 275hp V6. It's all "factory" JDM. Sure there are faster cars on the road, but they are pretty obvious. No one suspects Nana's Toyota hatchback at the lights do they.

Why not start with a V8 Explorer? Or a Ranger, which is far lighter than an Explorer

Best check the rear end - I think your '02 has an independent rear suspension, which is not the best for putting the power to the pavement. I think the '02 was the first year for it.
