Buying a car to make long distance trip, recommendations?
Hi I'm looking for a used car to a long distance. From NJ to south Florida, 1200 miles,18hrs. I need a used car that will reliably get me there. I use msn auto under reliability and car complaints.com to see what are good cars. I found a 2000 ford explorer with 140k miles which has good reviews for that particular year. I'm ok with the low mpg for $2200. I also found a 99 camry with 113k miles for $2700. What do you recommend? Or do you have any other suggestions? I'm looking in the year range of 97-2005 and price range $2000-4000. Please give year make and model.
A 2000 Explorer for $2200 is a decent price. (You might get the seller down to $2000.) Before you buy anything, have your mechanic check it out. For the 2000 Explorer with 140K, the biggest threat is the transmission possibly going out, and to fix that, it would run about $3500.
The Explorer would be a comfortable ride and hold all the stuff you need (and plenty of stuff you don't need) on your road trip. Expect about 16-18mpg on the highway.
I'd consider buying an Explorer for that price.
- 2000-2007 Ford Taurus. How long distance receive remote keyless entry signal? My taurus is only 10 feet. Is it normal? I bought new after market new remote and new battery but still same. I want to fix if its not normal. And Which location remote receiver unit?
- Recommendations for a first car? I'm looking to get a car in the next year. Kind of indecisive on what I what i think would be best. Definitely no fords. I'm mostly looking for a Honda but I'm not sure what's best. I do like teggys and accords though.
- Can I drive an older car long distance? I'm planning on buying an older car, either a 1984 Monte Carlo, 1999 Cadillac Eldorado, or a 2000 Ford Ranger and drive either one to Fort Polk from Miami since I'm PCSing there in a month. I was wondering is it a good idea to drive an older vehicle that far even if it is well maintained? Also how hard would it be to find parts and fix a classic car like the Monte Carlo?
- Looking for used MPV recommendations? Could I please get opinions on the best used mpv to buy for a family of four and a Labrador dog. The car needs to be fuel efficient as its main purpose will be to commute to and from Coventry (60 mile round trip) but I need it for holidays with the family and dog as our ford focus is not big enough. I'm looking at up to £6000 but will be on HP with a trade in on the focus(1.4l, 2003, 5 door)
