Accidentally emptied tran fluid pan?

So long story short I emptied (not totally still some dribbling out by the time I figured out my mistake) my trans fluid pan instead of my oil pan. I have a 2009 ford explorer so it doesn't have the tran fluid stick to check from. My local auto shop is 5 miles away and I don't want to do heavy damage to the transmission. Will I be able to make it down there or will I end up trying to buy all the necessary tools to fix it.

DO NOT drive it without fluid…, You may make it to the shop, but you will probably need a new trasnmission by the time you get there. Hire a tilt load towtruck and get it towed there if you can't fix it yourself

Don't drive it. It won't go anyway. Find the fill plug should be at the rear or passenger side. See if you can screw it off and pump back in the ATF.

  • Does the oil pan have to be removed to change the rear main seal on a ford 3.0L V6 in a 2000 ford ranger? I have the engine removed from the truck and was swaping in a salvaged engine that all checks out good except for a slight leaking rear main seal. So, after inspecting the rear main seal, it appears as though a could just slide it out and a new one in. Does the oil pan need to be removed? Or can I just carefully remove the old seal and clean the surfaces good and install a new one?
