99 ford explorer misfires on cylinder 4. What's that mean? - 1

It means that sometimes cylinder #4 doesn't fire correctly.

It could be caused by a clogged fuel injector, fouled spark plug or a variety or other things.

Misfires are pretty serious because it only takes one misfiring cylinder to screw up your engine performance and drastically reduce your power and your fuel economy. However the good news is that the most common causes are all relatively simple repairs. Spark plugs can be replaced, fuel inejctor nozzles can be serviced or replaced.

Its worth the $90-$100 diagnostic fee to find out the root cause.

Make sure all of the ignition connections are tight and the wires are good. If it was a bad coil- then two cylinders would be misfiring. So I suspect the high tension wire to the plug or fouled plug.

Either a compression, spark or fuel issue
