My truck paint is chipping?

I have a 2011 Ford F150 Lariat. The color is Tuxedo Black with the metallic paint. It has never been in a collision, and it has never had any body work done. It has 110,000 miles on it so the warranty is not valid anymore. My dad was the first owner, and when he got his new f150 he gave me this one for my 16th birthday. This truck has been well taken care of. I have noticed the paint is starting to chip in places all over the vehicle. There are probably about 20 chips in total. I have read that Ford has had issues with their paint, so could this be the case? I'm going to have this vehicle thru college and I do not want it to look bad. My dad has a 2014 F150 Platinum with ruby red metalic paint, and a 2014 F150 XLT with the metallic gray paint, and my mom has a 2013 Expedition EL Limited with the same paint as mine. None of theirs is chipping, and they all goto the same car wash. Should Ford fix this?

More than likely caused by environmental conditions such as road debris. If it was caused by poor paint adhesion it would have bubbled up and peeled off in large areas long ago. The best thing to do would be to get it touched up at a detail shop that does airbrush touch up or get it resprayed.

Have your dad run it by the body shop manager at the dealership that he's bought all those Fords… He may be able to work out something… If its a defect, but your description sounds like environmental damage not a delamination issue… Either way the manager may offer a customer goodwill, discount.

  • Cost of paint job on a pickup? Just bought a '93 Ford Ranger and looking to paint it blue with white racing stripes. Looking for an estimate on costs.
  • Paint problems on Mercury Grand Marquis? The paint is flaking off my Grand Marquis. I first noticed when using a high pressure hose at a car wash. Started looking the car over and found several places where the paint seems to be just falling off. Is this common with Ford/Mercury products?
  • Punk hit my car. How to touch-up paint? While in the gym, someone hit my white bumper, leaving chipped paint, exposing the black metal underneath the paint. Getting the paint repaired will cost me $600. Being a college kid, I don't have the funds. Is there a cheaper alternative to paint my car white again? Edit: It is a 2014 Ford Mustang.
  • How much should it cost to paint my Ford Mustang? I have a 2006 Ford Mustang V8 convertible. I want to paint it obsidian black? Just an estimate. Don't want to be taken to the cleaners
