Why won't my car ford zx2 start after battery disconnected?

So I was trying to install an amp late last night, drilled through my firewall for the power cable, disconnected my negative battery terminal, disconnected the positive, accidentally cause a spark. Hooked up amp cable reconnected positive, then negative. When I get in my car, the radio, the lights, the air everything works fine, except the car won't turn over, it will crank strong but no turn over, I tried jumping it, no good, I took it all apart, removed the amp and power/ground cables, still same issue, I'm assuming the spark didn't short my battery because all the electric is still going strong (I may be wrong) I was thinking maybe a bad starter? But it worked fine before the battery terminals were disconnected and reconnected? Bad fuse? Something to do with the fuel injector? Any advice and where/how to start looking would be much appreciated, thanks.

Update: It's a 98 ford escort zx2 sport auto transmission 4 cylinder, it was working fine until I disconnected the battery, after reconnection, it cranks strong but it just won't start. I touched nothing other than the battery, please send help.

First off, crank and turn over are the same. So it will turn over, but not start. If it cranks, obviously the starter is good. You need to check to see if there's a spark going to the spark plugs. When you shorted it out and got a spark at the battery, you could have blown a fuse or burned up or destroyed some electrical component in the fuel or ignition systems. It is tough and expensive and frustrating to work on vehicles when you have no idea what you are doing and is usually cheaper to pay someone to do it properly.

If It turns over the starter is fine. You may have knocked a wire out for the fuel injectors or fuel pump, spark plugs etc.

You may have fried the starter

  • Why won't my car start after shutting down on highway? My car shut down while driving on the highway. I tried to turn it back on but it won't start. It cranks but won't start. The battery is fine. The fuel pump is fine. I think the distributor cap isn't getting power. Can it be the ignition module? Its a 1994 ford tempo lx with 70k miles on it.
  • Why did my car start and die when put into gear? Now it won't start at all? It's a cold winter day (below zero) Car started right up! I let it run for about 2 minutes, I put it in gear and it just died. I figured it's cold out, not real surprising, but when I tried to start it again, it won't start! Turns over fine but engie won't start! Any ideas? 2003 Ford Taurus 3.0L
  • One side of the power steering rack line on this 91 Ford Taurus is disconnected. Why, and what to do? The power steering rack in my Ford Taurus has a metal rack line that is just laying there unconnected on the front left wheel side of the rack and pinion. Did it just pop out a long time ago? It looks like its been laying there unconnected forever. It seems connected fine on the right hand side, next to the bellows. If I try to plug it back into the fitting for it, will it stay put this time?
  • Ford Mustang 2004 car won't start after battery terminal changed? Had my battery in my 2004 ford Mustang changed. The terminal broke and was a little loose, but the car still ran. Today we changed the terminal to the battery and now the car won't start. Every thing was fine earlier with the loose terminal, but when the terminal was changed, the car decides not to start.
