Ford Dealership! No such thing as phantom codes

Which scanner did you use? That should be an obd1 vehicle.

Advance Auto or Auto Zone can scan for codes and reset the system to clear codes, even phantom codes. You can try removing the ignition fuse for 10-15 minutes. Then, reinstall the fuse, turn the key to ON (NOT Start) and let all the first bells get done dinging, then start the car. The computer will reset to defaults with that.
It may clear that issue.
It's good to let the car reset itself every time you start it. That's the simple, pause you do at "ON" with the key before starting. It also lets the fuel pump prime the system.

Charles, what is your intention in posting this? To tell us you have been absent from English class extensively? Charles, Ford is a proper name. Charles, Escort is a proper name. They must be capitalized. Charles, the first word of EACH sentence must be capitalized. The errors continue. It as if you can't write smoothly as this is very choppy. Check Engine. This is a message, not a light. Check Engine. Also a title. Otherwise, to check light makes no sense. Charles, are you an orphan? No family members? No mechanics in your city? Codes are a mysterious number unless there's a professional that knows what to do. Charles, asking for guesses as to cars is very foolish. Only a trained, certified, and experienced mechanic can look at this issue. This is a nineteen year old car, older than you, with probably close to 300,000 miles. Frankly, I'm surprised it is still running. Keep it running, please. Go to a mechanic. It can be something so simply it shall surprise you. Why not go and find out? While waiting, Charles, why not reflect on the simple act of writing correctly. To use "convenience English" known at texting made up language, is detrimental to the brain for soon it actually believes that to write incorrect is acceptable. It is not.

Bring it to your Ford dealership.
