Antifreeze leak from right front of car?
2001 Ford Escort ZX2. We went to the store briefly and when we returned about 10 minutes later, I noticed that it had leaked a few ounces of antifreeze. I couldn't tell immediately where it was coming from, as it appears to be dripping from one of the lower "pointed" parts of a black guard that is bolted on. Even with the car off, it was dripping every 3-4 seconds or so. We started back up, finished a few local errands and came back home. With it running, I no longer saw it leaking at all. Not a single drip from the place where it was dripping. When it was turned off, I no longer saw any drip then, either.
Any ideas? I'm planning to let it cool off for a bit and then jack it up and take the guard off to see if maybe it is the hose joining the radiator or water pump.
I did notice one thing… The level of antifreeze in the overflow part in the back was below the "full" mark. I also noticed what looked like a fresh green trickle down the front side of the plastic overflow, as if it had leaked something (but I see nothing wrong with the overflow itself). However, that is in the back near the firewall… So I'm trying to figure out how that would be dripping way up there where the water pump and radiator hose would be.
There might be a leak in a gasket on engine somewhere. The hoses appear to be good, but you might try squeezing them to find out. They should be very hard to squeeze, that means they're new and good. But if they're really easy to squeeze, then they need to be replaced as quickly as possible, might be easy to blow up!
But to me, sounds like might be engine gasket has small leak somewhere, and those are always hard to find. But check connections going into the firewall. The fluid goes in small tube, into firewall where the radiator fluid then goes into the heater core so you can heat up or cool down. Then it exits and goes thru firewall again pretty close to the hose where it went into firewall. Hoses should be same size diameter. Clamps might need tightening.
- Old car, new radiator, red or blue antifreeze? I have 2L Ford pinto engined car, i will replace radiator and lower-upper hoses. so, should i use blue antifreeze or red (organic). my engine is old but radiator will be new, Red cause leak? Shell branded antifreezes are good?
- My front right turn signal isn't working on my 2014 ford transit? I replaced the bulb and it functioned for only a day. I switched it with a working bulb but it still flashes fast. Do you guys know what the problem is?
- My 2000 Ford Windstar has a coolant leak. What could be causing it to leak? It has two leaks. One is from the passenger side near the front tire and the second is right below the driver's seat. I have to replace the coolant after I have had the heater on for a bit. I never have it on for more than 15 min. Not because the coolant runs out in that time but I just don't use it for long. I took it to the mechanic and he stated it was the "lower intake manifold gasket". I'm asking if anyone has any other ideas because that repair is pretty pricey.
- Where is my antifreeze going if no leak? I have a 2002 ford focus zts that i have to add antifreeze to every week or two. Its not going into the engine, changed the oil and it was clean oil… Not leaking from exhaust pipe, not leaking from anywhere. Thermostat has already been changed… Where is it going I looked at everything, no smell in car, no wet spots on carpet, outside of car does smell like antifreeze after running for awhile. Oil is cleaner than ever, no bubbles. I think i'll go have a pressure test done
