2000 Ford Escort Zx2 problems?

My first car, my 2000 ford zx2 recently broke down, my friend drove it which was a mistake on my part but all of the sudden the transmission started slipping… But it still drove so we decided to take it home and check there, then all of the sudden going about 70 on the interstate the car decides to really die, the front wheels locked up and stopped spinning instantly and the car slid to a halt and when we tried to get out and push it nothing happened the wheels stayed locked… And now when it's started up you have to keep your foot on the clutch or it dies even in neutral as if there's no neutral anymore but when it's in 1st and you try to go it lurches forward like it's trying but the front wheels are locked for some reason… Someone please help I need Ito get my car off the highway before it gets hit and I can't afford a tow truck… Need to unlock these wheels

Sounds like something broke inside the transmission by your description. You very likely will not be able to unlock the wheels on the side of a road if the vehicle's momentum while travelling 70 wasn't enough to unlock them.

If the car is stuck ON the active roadway, it's time to call police to get a squad car out there As soon as possible with lights to warn other drivers that your car is stuck ON the road. That could injure or kill someone. Killing or injuring someone will cost you far, far more than it will cost if a police officer forces you to get the car towed.

If the car is off the active roadway, I'd either recommend using/renting a car dolly and having a friend/relative with a truck to tow it away or just calling a local scrapyard and having them pick up the car. I'd be surprised if you don't need to replace the entire transaxle among other things damaged by a complete lockup at 70. Unless you plan to sink a lot of money into fixing the car, scrapping it might actually be a sensible option.
