Is a 2005-07 Mercury Mariner a good car for a high school student?

I'm a 17 year old male and I currently have a 1995 Ford F150 4WD. I love this truck but, it uses way too much gas. I also don't really need to haul or tow anything. My mom has a Ford Escape V6 4WD and I'm used to driving that. It's also been extremely reliable over the past 10 years. I'm thinking about selling the truck and getting a Mercury Mariner V6 AWD. I plan to keep it for quite a few years. I think it's a comfortable car and great for trips. Would the Mariner be a good choice for a high school/college student?

Added (1). I'm staying away from the Hybrid because I heard the battery eventually has to be replaced and that's really expensive.

Yeah, if you want to continue to be a gas hog, block people's views who are behind you, and be the target of overall condescension for driving an SUV as a single person.

  • I'm in high school and about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car So far I have looked into ford mustangs, I have a choice between a 2007 ford mustang gt with a 8 cylinder motor with automatic transmission, or I can get a 2013 mustang v6. My question is which of the two cars is a faster and louder car cause I would like to show it off and have heads turn by its engine as I drive off on the street. Thank you very much about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car?
  • If I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner and have the key below could I use the standard key and remote? What I mean by standard remote and key is like the ones Ford, Mecury, and Lincoln came out with at first with just a remote and key. Also how would an extra key cost like the one in the picture above? Would it be cheaper to do the the standard key and remote?
  • Driving 22 miles to High School? I have got my license and I got a 97 ford explorer. I'll be a senior and with after school practice for cross country and wrestling. Including the occasional saturdays for races and tournaments should I drive to school. It will be great for homework and sleep. The only problem is yes you guessed it GAS What do yall think
