How many miles would be too many miles on a Ford Escape?

I'm in the market for a new SUV. I currently drive a 07 Camry but after a bunch of issues I'm tired of it and I REFUSE to buy any Toyota vehicle. I really like the Ford Escape especially for the size, pretty good rating and nice gas mileage. I don't want to spend over 12k because I will have to finance and pay it off monthly. But most Escape's that fall under my budget have 100k miles or more on them.

I work from home currently and I take online classes so there's not a work or school commute to think about and I don't foresee one in the next couple years. Mainly I'll be using this truck for running errands a few times a week (maybe 50 or 60 miles per week) and occasional road trips (once every 6 months or so - 400 miles or so).

I'll most likely buy from CARMAX and these trucks are listed should you want to see the listing for yourself but I'll put color, year, mileage and price below.

Here's my question, do you think any of these would be a good choice for me in my situation? Is there anything I should look for as far as condition if/when I see the truck(s) in person?

Truck A: Red 2006 with 121k miles for $8998

Truck B: Black 2005 with 117k miles for $9599

Truck C: Blue 2007 with 113k miles for $9599

Truck D: Green 2007 with 114k miles for $10599

Truck E: Green 2006 with 103k miles for $10599

I have a 2010 ford escape hybrid with 120,000 miles on it, and I've never done anything other than routine maintenance to it. Maybe I've gotten lucky, I don't know, but I'm pretty happy, and plan to keep it a while longer.

I think you might have gotten a dud with your 2007 Camry. In general, Toyota vehicles are very reliable and high quality.

Whatever you pick, I'd have a mechanic look at it if you're serious about buying it. I'd be most concerned about the transmission I think, as that can go after 100k and it's a very expensive repair.

Buying an Escape with over 100K miles for over $9K is a poor decision.

You may have had a dud, but when you compare long-term quality across the board, Toyota is a better choice than Ford.

All things being equal none of these trucks have too many miles if they have been taken care of. If they have been neglected then all of them have too many miles. If all these trucks have basically the same equipment then Truck D & E are out because Green is a bad color to buy. Hard to sell and most are ugly. Truck B, Black is out because it is hard to keep clean and hot in the summer. Truck A and C are prettily much equal but I would save the $602 and get the Red Truck A. Only 8,000 more miles on it.

6 thousand is too much on those trucks. Just kidding but I'd never buy one with 100k unless you drive around 5000 mi. Per year and have a budget for reapirs. 4 family members owned them and they All SUCKED. If it's for under 6k it's maybe worth it but otherwise run

My mom has a 2005 with over 215,000 miles and it's still going like new.

  • Is putting too many miles on my car at once bad? I have a 2001 ford mustang. It currently has 104,000 miles. I bought it at 93,000 miles in early 2013. I'm taking trip on Sunday and from here to there and back it will be around 174 miles. I maintain the car, change it's oil all of that.
