How many miles should my brake pads last?
I have a 2014 Ford Escape. It only has 13000 miles but it sounds like the brakes are squeaking. I've towed a pop-up camper before (probably 500 total miles). Does towing wear out the brakes that dramatically?
Depends on how you use them and how much. Could be 10,000 miles or 100,000. I doubt it's due to towing a camper 500 miles.
Squeaking doesn't necessarily mean they need replacing some cheaper pads can start to squeak naturally, you should be getting more than 13000 miles out of them. Closer to 30k is the typical life of them.
1. Squeaking does not mean the brakes pads are worn out - new brake pads will squeal if fitted incorrectly or not greased properly
2. Obviously towing means more weight to slow down and stop so more brake wear occurs. How "dramatically" that occurs will be down to the amount of towing to not towing use and the driving style along with the terrain so do not expect an answer that will mean anything on that
3. The front brake pads should be OK for around 20 to 25000 and the rears longer when used normally
Towing a camper will cause the brakes to wear faster if you did allot of stopping, but not to the extent your pads would wear out in 13,000 miles. You are assuming they are worn out. Inspect them to see. If they are then you have a problem somewhere. This car is still under warranty so let the Ford dealer figure it out. I would not mention I had towed anything to the dealer.
- How many miles a 3.0 engine in a '95 Ford Taurus should last? I've got nearly 193,000 on it now. Have been good about oil changes and most mechanical work although a few years ago I drove it for several weeks with a broken catalytic converter.
- How many miles will my truck last me? 1998 Ford ranger xlt 3.0 v6 she's running strong flushed radiator but when it's in park sometimes it shakes. Could that be a muffler? Not really an issue. Just wondering how many miles I can get out of her before I need to start worrying. It's at 159k.
- How to undo bolts on Ford Galaxy 2003 Front & Rear brake caliper to renew disc's and pads? I need to renew the disc's and pads at the front and rear of Ford Galaxy 2003. I have the correct sockets and a large extension bar, but they will not budge (front or rear). I have tried WD40, thinking of trying a little heat, but its a bit near to the brake hoses. All suggestions gratefully received. I have a full workshop manual on this car issued by Ford which just says that they are tightened to 190Nm. The front bolts are huge 27mm and the rear bolts are 18mm.
- How many miles is too many? - 2012 Ford Fusion? I have a couple of questions for you guys… I found a 2012 Ford Fusion SEL that I like. The problem is it has a LOT of miles for a 2012, 97k to be exact. Is this something a car buying should stay away from? My other question is how well do 2012 Ford Fusions hold up? How many miles can it be expected to last if it has been taken care of? I'm looking for a used car 2009-current for around or under 13k. Have suggestions? Feel free to let me know!
