AC recharge on 2013 Ford Escape and 2012 Ford Focus?

I tried to use my recharge hose with a can of 134A to recharge the low side of the AC in my 2013 Ford Escape and 2012 Ford Focus. I could NOT get the hose to sit on the low side of the AC inside the engine compartment no matter what. I even pulled up on the little thing on the hose, pushed on the connector, then let go of the thing around the end of the hose… All it did was leak out and get on my hand… Same thing on both cars… Is there something special about the connectors on these cars?

No, but neither car should need recharge, and doing it without the proper recovery/recharge machine can severely damage the compressor. If you are unhappy with the A/C performance you will be money ahead to have a professional do an actual service. Even a few ounces too much can feed "slugs" of liquid refrigerant into the compressor, where it has the same effect that chewing on rocks has on teeth.

Servicing the AC without evacuating the charge and doing a full vacuum will lead to many problems later. Spend some money and pay an AC technician. Your cars are still fairly new to be getting a "shade tree mechanic" service.
