2004 Ford Escape No start?

I got a 2004 Ford Escape XLT 3.0 DOHC that will not even crank over.

Pulled out the starter relay and jumper it and the engine turns over and it will not turn over with the key. But does not start with the key left on.

Scan tool can't communicate with the ECU/computer.

No Fuel Pump Relay click or noise from fuel pump unless it was jumper with wire on the fuel pump relay socket.

Theft light comes on when the key is turned and goes off when left on for a few seconds.

Check for corrosion on the harness as specified by a TSB I found online. One is under the battery tray and the other on the driver side kick panel.

Swapped PCM relay with a cooling fan relay which has the same part number.

All fuses look fine even the high amp one under the hood.

I'm stumped on what's wrong.

The Starter Relay is PCM controlled. Might be a good idea to concentrate on lack of communication first. It might even be a lack of power that is affecting both. DLC pin 16 should be 'live' at all times.
Let's not forget Park/Neutral switch or Clutch switch.

Come on baby

I jumpered the PCM relay, The Fuel pump Relay, And jumpered the starter momentary and it did not even start.

Still no communication with the PCM with the PCM relay jumpered and key on.

I even held the key to try to start when shifting to neutral and back to park.

Its like the computer went brain dead on me.

None of the relays click like they are supposed to when the key is turned. I know the fuel pump relay is supposed to click on for 3 seconds.

Its not even my vehicle. All I know is that he drove it to the driveway and shut it off for a few hours then to come back out to leave and it did this.

Did you clean the battery terminals? Sonds a little bit like that or the ignition switch went bad!

  • Which is better? 1995 ford ranger which is stick or a 2004 Ford Escape? I'm a 16 year old boy and I'm lucky enough to have those two cars to choose from. Both have high mileage, like 350k on the ranger and 250k for the escape. Both have been serviced to a T. I really don't know which car would be best in the Long run. Meaning I don't know which one is most reliable and which one would be best for me and my use of maybe hauling my friends around. So which one do you think is the best choice?
  • 2004-2008 Ford F150 vs 2004-2008 Dodge Ram 1500? I have been wanting to know which of these two trucks should I get? I watch videos on them but as I read the comments the controversy between the people are just left and right, "dodge is better, ford is better" but they never give an explanation why. So which truck is more reliable and why?
  • Is a 2001Ford Escape's engine the same or at least similar to a 2002/2004 Ford Escape? My car is overheating and I've changed my radiator, thermostat, and reservoir and now I'm down to the water pump. I found a video on YouTube for removing the water pump and I think it was on a 2004 Escape or an 02. But I drive a 2001 Ford Escape XLT V6 3.0L 2WD and I need to know if the engines are the same or at least similar. I need to know if the water pump is in the same place?
