Is putting in a water pump in a vehicle a tough job?

I recently purchased a 2007 Ford Edge, and the only thing that needs fixing is the water pump. Is this a tough job? About how long would it take roughly? And what would the maintenance for doing so cost at a shop roughly?

Weekend job maybe even a day. The problem is all of the things you have to remove to get to the pump. Drain the coolant before if you do it yourself. Always cheaper to do it yourself in my opinion.

The job pays 11.4 hours. That's the average time that it should take a experienced technician who has done the job before to replace it.

Someone who is inexperienced (That would be YOU if you're asking about it here) trying to do it their driveway? Good luck with that!

At my area's average labor rate, that's $1,200.00 in labor plus parts.

Go to the library and see if you can find a manual for your vehicle. I used to do it back when engines were simpler, no idea what it is like today.

I remember when water pumps were bolted to the front of the block. Changed the one on my 82 Silverado in 2 hours on a side street in Rantoul Ill in the middle of January. It would have been faster but I had to bum a ride form a good samaritan, to and from the parts store.

I took a look at it. That is the water pump job from Hell. On some cars, wate rpump is a very easy job, on others dirven by the timing belt much more difficult. But the location and circumstance of the Edge means a lot of work.

OMG, it says 12.3 hrs in my book if it's an AWD model. I thought I'd seen it all but that one surprises me. It's driven by the timing chain so there's a whole bunch of complicated stuff to go through to get at it.
$1500. Would not be unusual with fluids and depending on the mileage, possible chain tensioners and new chains maybe way more than that. Is putting in a water pump in a vehicle a tough job

This is not a back yard job to need a tech to do the work, chance's are others parts will need replacing so plan on spending 2500 hundred dollars

Expensive repair.

  • How to know if a vehicle is worth putting money into? I bought a 2005 Ford Ranger 4x4 5 speed and it is mechanically sound except for the timing chain rattle. The underside truck is rusty due to being in the North for 13 years of its life. I want to get rid of as much rust as possible to paint and protect the frame, but I don't know if this truck is worth putting money into. Any tips to decide if it is worth it? Or should I look into buying a new truck?
  • Estimated cost for a water pump replacement? 1998 Ford Mustang V6 3.8 L I already bought the water pump for $60 I just need to know about how much a mechanic would charge for replacing it?
  • Ford ka water pump removal? I've got a 02 plate 1.3 ka and the water pump is stuffed, I'm removed the pump but can't actually get it out with the engine and the chasis been so close together, anyone know how to remove it without having to drop the engine?
  • How to change water pump on 1993 Ford Tempo? I managed to get the drive belt off but I can't seem to get the tube that goes into the water pump off. It seems to be made of metal or something. I also can't seem to reach the 3 bolts that hold the water pump on, they seem to be in places to tight to reach. Any suggestions?
