Ford galaxy 1996 brakes keep sticking?
I have a ford galaxy 1996 with abs the brakes keep sticking on. Every time I use it there fine for the first mile or so then once everything has heated up the brakes stick on. And then to get them off I either have to wait for everything to cool down and they then release them selfs or at the side of the road bleed one of the nipples and they release but then there jammed on again within a matter of yards. All 4 brakes have been bled (I don't know if it is meant to be done in a certain way or not? Just done back to front and that didn't fix the problem so then done from to back that didn't work either) a few weeks ago I had the master cylinder changed and the new one was about 2mm longer than the one that was removed (I don't know if that makes any difference or not) I'm not a mechanic and have little to no knowledge at all on cars except how to drive one. All 4 brakes are sticking on the handbrake is shockingly bad when there cold but then once it's all warmed up it's great and rock solid. Any advice appreciated.
Sounds like heat build up,
sticking calipers means the pads are always part way on, so friction makes heat and heat expands things.
Sticking caliper slides, sticking pistons, contaminated fluid, collapsed flexi hoses, could be any or all.
You have to go to a good mechanic,
You do not run risks with brakes, ever!
- I have a ford 2001 ford Galaxy 2.3 petrol needing Electric Windows will only work from the the drivers side. I checked the wiring within the doors and repaired any broken wires but still nothing. The drivers switch has a child lock for the window but this doesn't make a difference if on or off. Is the anything els I can check? Could it be the drivers switch at fault? Looking for some simple tests I can check before I put money in to this. Cheers Paul
- How to undo bolts on Ford Galaxy 2003 Front & Rear brake caliper to renew disc's and pads? I need to renew the disc's and pads at the front and rear of Ford Galaxy 2003. I have the correct sockets and a large extension bar, but they will not budge (front or rear). I have tried WD40, thinking of trying a little heat, but its a bit near to the brake hoses. All suggestions gratefully received. I have a full workshop manual on this car issued by Ford which just says that they are tightened to 190Nm. The front bolts are huge 27mm and the rear bolts are 18mm.
