For being 18yo, do I have any chance at becoming a salesman for this retailer?
I live in a small town, and there's a Ford car dealership about 10 minutes away. I just turned 18 and I need a job.
For all my life, as far back as I can remember, I have always been excellent at economics, especially marketing, and the born-ability to change the perception of the customer to (make) them believe that "… Our product is of the highest quality than any other you may find, and our company has a specialty in this criteria."
Anyway, back to the car retailer. I know that for every great market strategy, in my experiences and foremost opinion, gathering information is the best way to base and plan a good strategy. By that, I mean, I'm trying to create a plan of "This is why you need me!". I have driven by the past half year (I was in school) and I had noticed that the same cars were always in the parking lot every time I drove past. And once, I was interested in one of the cars they owned. And I had to wait seriously 5 minutes until a salesman came out to talk to me. And what a god awful sales pitch he gave to. Also, I have been looking, and I have never seen a single advertisement anywhere.
From what I hear, the owners are older people, own a dozen businesses, extremely rich, and has so much money & are so old, that they could care less what happens to there business. But that's only rumor.
I failed at school, mostly because I was extremely busy increasing my knowledge on learning the "physics" of Wall Street… Instead of learning how atoms worked.
It is great that you have confidence in yourself! I have no collage degree myself, and work in sales and am very successful. However it took many years to get where I'm now!
My advise to you would to be to put together a professional cover letter (you can find a lot of resources on how to do this on the internet) and a resume.
A resume is not only for outlining your job history, but also outlines your skills. In your cover letter explain why you believe you would be an asset to this company.
It is important to be positive in your cover letter - for example I would not say "I waited forever before your current sales staff noticed me, and then they did not give me any buying incentive" Instead explain why YOU would be great! As in "I'm confident, energetic and enjoy meeting new people. I have great communication and customer service skills." etc etc. I would also put in there that you are eager to learn the business. Since you are eager to market, put that in there too - but once again, don't say their current marketing sucks. Let them know you are a creative thinker, and always coming up with new ideas!
Write it up, and just stop in and ask to speak to the manager. From my experience in sales it is your attitude that will get you in the door, not your education!
Best of Luck!
- Steering wheel becoming stiff even when driving forward, why? My 2005 ford freestyle steering wheel was making noise the power steering fluid was leaking had the pump changed, but now a squeling noise is coming from the front and the steering wheel is becomin stiff when turning… What can this be?
- Should AG Sessions extend US Marshal protection to Dr. Ford and any other women being threatened for testifying about Judge Kavanaugh? Kavanaugh is receiving protection from the US Marshals. Dr. Ford has to pay for her own protection. This is despicable.
- Kavanaugh has a legal background AND is being prepared by top notch lawyers for Monday's interview. Ford has no chance against? Them even if she tells the truth. Is she right to insist on an FBI investigation to support her claims? The SC can do with only 8 justices for a while.
- How do car salesman get paid? I just got hired at ford but they told me there's 2 different ways of pay and I didn't understand either?
