Why is my truck dying while driving?

I have a '78 Ford F-250. It is a camper special that sat for a few years with minimal movement. A friend of mine gave it to me. I've replaced the fuel filter, master brake cylinder, and the heater core. The truck idles fine… It can idle forever with no problems. What happens is when I drive it, after a few miles the engine starts to die. If I press harder on the gas it sputters and struggles to come back but then eventually dies. I have to pull over and it won't start up until it's sat for about 10 mins and then it starts back up and drivea. Then the process happens all over. What could it be?

May be something wrong with fuel delivery. Probably a lot of crud in the tank plugging up the fuel filter. You could also try removing the gas cap to make sure it isn't pulling a vacuum on the fuel tank.

Try a new fuel filter, you'll be amazed.

  • Why my car stops accelerating while driving? Have a Ford Fussion 2007. I was driving at about 40MPH and my car suddenly stops moving like if it was on neutral it accelerate by it self wth out moving even though it was on drive. I pulled over, turn it off and started again and it took me back home normally but now it did it again I took it to a mechanic and he put it in the computer but he says nothing is showing it seems that everything is ok but that car now is not moving! It only goes on reverse or low driving but not drive
  • Listed as driving an ATV on my speeding ticket when I was driving a Truck? I live in Minnesota and received a speeding ticket yesterday. When I looked it over it said the vehicle was an ATV. I was driving a Ford Truck. Is this how they list all trucks on tickets or did the officer make a mistake. The citation was correct just not the type of vehicle.
  • Why did she honk at me while I was driving? So this lady who was driving a red Ford Fusion honked at me. Her license plates were GH6 KPR. When the light turned green, the front car moved and I wanted to keep a distance, and them she honked at me. Why? BTW, there was a shooting in that location and I was the witness, I'm just going to frame her I guess.
  • Why are my brakes locking up on my 2006 Ford Focus while driving? The calipers and brake pads have been replaced, but the brakes still lock up to the point of smoking wheels and the smell of burning metal. Also, when the brakes lock up the air conditioning blows hot air. It's very weird. Any ideas?
