What used truck to get for towing, tundra, duramax?
I'm, currently looking to get a truck for the main purpose of towing my off road truck to the desert. I plan to get a 18ft car hauler and my truck weighs about 3100lbs. Ill also have a couple of dirtbikes in the back as well and some camping stuff. My price range is about 20k give or take a few thousand. The trucks i have been interested in are the Toyota tundra 07+ with the 5.7L, the Chevy 2500 duramax 06 or 07 and maybe a ford f250 or 350 with the 7.3L on the 99-2001 range. The tundra is the only gas model that i'm leaning towards since it gets great reviews but i hear good things about the chevy especially for those years. Price wise i've seen the chevy at the higher end even with what it seems to be alot of miles 150k+ but i don't know how long those engines last. I know the tundra is a good truck but not sure with the towing capacity.
i'm in so cal so there are some grades i will be climbing to get to and from the desert and ill take any suggestions on different trucks as well, i just want my money to go in the right direction thanks
Avoid the Japanese trucks… They are basically garbage. A 3100lb truck on a 1000lb trailer could be towed by nearly anything.
The Duramax is the least reliable diesel engine truck you can get. The Powerstroke and Cummins are lightyears better. However for what you would be towing, you really don't need a 3/4 ton or 1 ton.
Find a low mileage Hemi Ram or 5.4L F150 and be done with it. Either of those will last you hundreds of thousands of miles more than the GM or Toyota.
Our 97 F250 XLT tows our 8500 lb 5th wheel RV though steep climbs can be challenging as we're at the max tow allowance for the truck (10,000) when fully loaded. Each manufacturer lists tow capability for all their different models. For example, the F150 comes in various cab size, bed size, and engine size/type. Diesel will tow more. Current F150 vary from 8000lb capacity to 14,000lb towing capacity. Add up total weight of everything you'll tow/load then check out each mfg web site. I think there's a website where you put in what you want (tow/load amount, can, engine ) and it suggests different makes/models.
- Wich is stronger chevy duramax 3500, dodge 3500 cummins or the ford f4500 diesle? I know it says their stuff on the website but witch is strongest. Because ignoring the stuff on their sites witch is strongest. I know chevy has the steel frame too
- Powerstoke or duramax? I'm looking at buy I a new 2017 1 ton truck. I'm torn between a ford or a gmc. Which truck will be more reliable, Better mpg, etc. The two dealerships I have been to are about the same price.
- Is all Tundra 4x4's a Ford? And are the all Toyota's. I know this seem odd but I need to know? I'm thinking about a Tundra and I'm doing a little research, that's all.
- What would be a good first car to get that you can get used Like, ford fusion, camri, civic, etc. These are just some examples, this is my first car and I'm not sure what to look for.
