How to know if its DIESEL?

I'm looking to buy a new truck. But deffinetly not gas, but DIESEL, so how do you know its a diesel engine?

I want a used silverado 2009 or newer. I understand the 1500's are gasoline… And I thought 2500 a d 3500's are automatically diesel, is that true? Is there 1500 that are also diesel? And is there 2500 and 3500 that are also gas?

&lastly, should I get a ford or chevy. I like both makes, but what do you guys think? I also don't need more than a 2500 or F250.

And also I read somewhere the powerstroke engines on fords arent as good as the other kind I forget what its called?

If there are no spark plugs, it is a diesel. I'm a Chevy guy. The Ford and Chevy diesel engines are very poor. Get a Dodge with a Cummins. Diesel fumes are no more carcinogenic than gasoline or its fumes. Blowing black smoke is COOL. My son has a Dodge that someone replaced the fuel rod in before he bought it. He put a 8" stack on it. He can leave a trail of black smoke that scares little old ladies and irritates motor cycle riders. My son is looking at at new Dodge. It is $65,000. His current Dodge is a 1 ton dually and gets in excess of 20 mpg (as long as he doesn't make it smoke too much) and with a 33 gal tank, he can out distance most gassers.

He means how do you know by looking at a used car online if its deisel by the model number or etc.

Look at the size of it's exhaust pipe.

Diesel's are about 4-1/2 inches in diameter.

Gas are about 2-1/2 inches in diameter.

When diesel is running, you can easily tell.

Google it…

It will say on the side if it is diesel but did you know that the fumes from diesel engines can cause cancer? And did you know that diesel is worse than unleaded petrol/gas? And did you know you will have to fill up more often?

Silverado doesn't have 1500 diesels, since 1999 i think. Not all 2500 or 3500 are diesels, fewer than half, i'm sure. If it says "Duramax", it is diesel, Cummins on a Ram, and Powerstroke on a Ford.
