Early 90s Ford Truck Oil Pressure Gauge?
I was curious on my 1990 F-250 with the 460. The oil pressure gauge only reads in between the quarter and half way mark of the gauge no matter the temperature, if you are at idle, accelerating, or at a constant speed it will just stay there. If you shut it off it will drop to the L obviously. This thing has me stumped. My 95 F-150 when I had it would stay at the quarter mark till you got on the road, then it would jump to over half and stay there.
My old 92 GMC Sierra would always jump to 60 PSI when you started it and drop slowly as it warmed up but never go under 40 PSI when you were driving. At idle it would drop to 20 at normal operating temp. Same with my 95 Silverado. Makes sense because as the oil warms up it gets thinner.
So is this just a Ford thing? Or should i get it checked out?
You really have two options… Replace the sending unit (which may have some sludge impairing it's operation), or plumb in a mechanical gauge. You never know what the gradations are on the gauge with only "H" and "L"… My Mustang used to start and run slightly above halfway, then drop to between the middle and Low marks… It looked like it was barely carrying 10 pounds at hot idle… Well, it turns out the the middle of the gauge was 50 PSI; so the gauge range musta been 0-100 PSI range-wise… Anyhow, once I found out what the increments were, it's actually carrying 30 PSI at hot idle; so I don't worry about it anymore.

- Can i get out of a ford lease early? Or get a new car early? After my 2004 GTO broke down, i was forced to lease a 2014 Focus, for 3 years and had to get extended miles. Its been about 5 months since i've had the car and so far i hate it. Slow, cheaply made, stereo is terrible, no traction in winter, i don't like it at all. Is there any chance of getting out of the lease early or turning it in without hurting my credit, or even turning it in to lease a different car. Possibly a truck or taurus. Has anyone else been in this situation?
- 2003 ford taurus ses sedan V6 3.0L OHV (vin U) oil pressure light? My cars oil light came on (red oil can). I changed the sensor for it. Do i have to go through the drive cycle for it to cut off? If so how long does that take? FYI: no codes show up for anything…
- Oil gauge randomly drops to 0 and back to normal? 2001 ford ranger 90, xxx miles While driving my oil guage will randomly drop to 0 and my check guage light comes on, it only drops to 0 for maybe a couple of seconds and goes back to normal. When i'm accelerating and my rpms r high you can hear an irregular revving. I'm at a loss as to what this could be, and it does sound concerning as it is messing with my revving
