Can you get a driver excluded from your policy after accident?

If someone lives in your house is not listed on your policy and you let them borrow your car and they get into an accident. Can you exclude them from your policy if your insurance is requiring you to add them.

They are telling my I have to add them and my bill is going up 200 dollars. I can't afford to pay it and they can't.

In most jurisdictions, most insurance companies offer the option to specifically exclude a driver from your policy. But because there's always a catch, there's a catch.

The accident still happened, and nothing will change that. And since you're the owner of the vehicle, it's your accident. Instead of rating the accident against this other driver, the insurance company will just rate it against you.

You want to contact your insurance provider and ask them a) if an excluded driver agreement is available (I said most, very important word) and b) what will happen to your rates if this driver is excluded from your policy.

The other catch, and you need to know this, is that exclusion agreements are absolutely iron clad. That means if this driver borrows your vehicle again and crashes, all the loss or damage costs are entirely your responsibility.

That's up to your insurance company. They may allow you to sign a document that states person X is excluded from the policy. This means if they ever get in an accident there will be NO insurance cover.

Or if they wish to drive your car, get them to chip in some $$ to help with the insurance bill.

Some insurance companies won't allow you to exclude household members who have a drivers license and some will allow it. You must ask YOUR insurance company.

If you don't allow them to drive your car, you won't need to include them on your insurance policy, but since you already DID allow it… You're kind of stuck with the results.

Nope. As long as they live under your roof and aren't old enough to get their own insurance policy (age 18), then you have to pay extra. The only exception is if they voluntarily surrender their driving license.
