Do alloy wheels have a huge impact on the acceleration of a car?
My car is a 1990 ford laser. I replaced my alloys with steel rims temporarily and the car feels like it struggles to accelerate. Is it just me or did the steel rims make it slower?
No - alluminium alloy wheels are not significantly lighter than a steel wheel of the same size and can occasionally be heavier. For wheel to be lighter than steel they have to be made from magnesiium alloy which is a lot lot more expensive
No. The effect is small. However if the steels have have higher profile tyres so the outer diameter is greater then the cars gearing will be higher and that would give you the effect you see.
- Why does my car pull to the right under acceleration? It goes straight when not accelerating, but if you hit the gas from a stop, it pulls to the right pretty hard, it has 92k miles, ford windstar, aligned at 77k miles… What could be the problem?
- What car is cheap and can be modified to be really fast in speed and acceleration? I have a Ford Taurus and I feel like as if it lacks speed and acceleration. Also which modifications can increase the speed of the car and acceleration of it without removing any weight?
- I have a 2001 Ford Taurus Lx, it sputters and hesitates during acceleration? I have a 2001 Ford Taurus Lx, it sputters and hesitates during acceleration! It doesn't go pass 25 mph but will reach 5 rpms! Changed spark plugs and wires! Also changed coil pack! Both converters are working properly! Check engine light is not on! Doesn't run hot!
