Can you return a new car if it giving you problems after just 3 weeks? What proceeds in these cases?

I bought a new 2017 Fiat 500x 3 weeks ago. Today out of the blue the check engine and transmission sign turned on and I had trouble changing the shift stick from drive to parking and then again from P to D. Once I had a Ford explores that we also bought new and apparently was the lemon of the bunch I'm scared it's going to be the same w this one since it has only been 3 weeks. Can I return the car? What are my options?

The car should still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Take it back to the dealer for free repairs. Check the lemon law in your state, if you haven't already done so--just search for the name of your state followed by "lemon laws". Usually lemon laws don't apply until a certain number of unsuccessful attempted repairs have been made.

Read the Owners Manual and Warranty. Check the website for your areas office of consumer protection (or whatever it's called there) to see if you have a Lemon Law or other resource.

You can take it back to the dealer for warranty repairs. If you have multiple problems and/or you have the same recurring problem that the dealer just can't fix, your vehicle may apply for a lemon law return.

But you likely won't have any rights to simply return a vehicle after you drove it off the lot.

Lemon laws require you give the dealer a chance to fix any problems. If the same problems are not repaired and keep happening speak with an attorney that does lemon law in your State.

READ the owner's manual that came with the car. A BRAND NEW car comes with a manufacturer's warranty. While that's no guarantee that the car will be absolutely trouble free, the dealer's service department should be able to fix anything that goes wrong free of charge for AT LEAST the first couple of years.

You can't just return a new car because of one problem. You'll need to take the car to the dealership and have their service department attempt to fix the problem(s) for free under warranty. If you experience the exact same problem 3 times under the factory warranty and it still isn't resolved after 3 attempts to fix it, THEN Lemon Law protections come into play which may allow you to return the car due to it being a "lemon".

My advice would be this - if the car continues to have all sorts of problems during the bumper-to-bumper warranty period, be fully prepared to sell the car right before the warranty expires and get something else. One problem that gets fixed right away isn't a major concern, but if you have the same problem at least twice or you experience a bunch of different problems while the car is under warranty it would be wise to get rid of it before you end up having to pay for the repairs yourself.

You have a warranty, use it. The way the Lemon law generally works is that you have to take the car in for the same repair at least 3 times within a defined period of time. You can't return it just because you want to.

Also if your car has "drive" and "park", it's not a stick shift.

You won't know anything until you take the car back to the dealer. PS-you can't return a car.

You can bring it back for repair, I doubt the dealer will let it be returned, but it won't hurt to ask. After 5 or six tries to fix the same thing, then they will be obligated to buy it back under the Lemon Law.

No. This is why new cars have a warranty. There's no right to return a vehicle. The fact that you bought a Fiat indicates you are not an informed consumer. They are junk.
