Can someone use roadside service to steal a car? - 1

Added (1). I own a newer ford and called roadside for the first time when i locked my keys in the trunk. A contractor was there quickly and did great fast work. All i had to provide was my name, the win, and mileage. Anyone could have done that, right? I'm not the registered owner yet (processing paperwork) so i know they didn't check.

Yes and I hope you get away with this

No, because the roadside service makes you prove ownership. You proved ownership by knowing where the keys were and the VIN and you may have even paid with your insurance which shows you have insurance on the car. You also didn't give them false information. Now, if you called a locksmith saying you lost the keys to your car, can he come change the igniton or make a key for it by pulling the code off the cylinder, oh yea, they are going to want to see the title with your name on it. You don't have to own a car to call for roadside service.

You said you called FORD roadside assistance, and gave you name and the VIN#. They can use the VIN# to contact the dealer that sold the car, and access dealer records to determine who they sold the car to, even if the title has not been transferred. In short you DID provide proof of ownership when you called.
